Metallica - Cunning Stunts 2 DVD set

Price: 9.99
Where: HMV

Metallica's cunning stunts video/DVD was recorded in 1997. The gig took place on the 9-10th of May in Fort Worth, Texas, USA with the intention of creating a music video. The DVD has a superbly sharp picture, with the capability for AC3 surround sound. The DVD case is attractively packaged, with a full Track listing on the rear cover. The DVD contains tracks such as Fuel, Until it Sleeps, For Whom The Bell Tolls and Fade to Black. Unlike many other DVDs on sale this DVD is purely about the show, there are no interviews in between tracks, the video flows much like it would if you were actually there. I personally felt that the performance of Nothing Else Matters, was slightly lacking. This however is largely due to the fact that he performed it in a different style to the style in which it is generally sung. The show also contains some drama when some guy is seen swinging on a cable from up at the lighting platform, the next thing you know he has crashed into a barrier, there are people climbing down ladders, explosions going off and the arena is plunged into darkness. By the light of torches you can see paramedics attending to various people. Despite this the show must go on so they continue their last few songs. The second DVD contains not only their encore, but also so called 'enhanced features' whereby you stick the disc into the computer and get access to a variety of resources including a link to the Metallica website, and also some photos. I personally love this DVD, the digital remastering of what must originally have been a VHS tape is superb, the sound quality is superb and Metallica are in their element. I would give this DVD 9 out of 10.

  • My Feelings on this DVD is that at 9.99 it is very reasonably priced, and contains a lot of music for that money. For the Metallica fans out there this DVD is incredible, however I am not sure I would recommend using this DVD as an example to try and get someone into Metallica. The language in between songs is Strong and Frequent so many parents would want to be quite careful with children running around.

Overall a bargain at the price, but largely because I know I already like Metallica, so I could appreciate when Nothing Else Matters was sung in a different style. Buy this as a present for any Metallica fans you know.
